German Discounter Lidl to Add 100 New Jobs

Lidl is set to open a second store in Swords, Co. Dublin next week and another store in Glenageary by early December, according to Independent.ie. A further two stores are currently under construction and are due to open in Cabra and Portmarnock by spring 2017.

Both of the new stores will be open just in time for Christmas and the new jobs will add to the company’s continuous contribution to the Irish economy over the previous 16 years, which is estimated to be €1.5bn.

JP Scally, managing director, stated that Lidl want to expand its operations in Dublin.

“Currently we have 34 locations in the city and county and are looking forward to this increasing substantially over the next year. In July we announced plans to hire an additional 600 jobs over the next 2 years and many of these will be for our new stores in Dublin.”

“We look to forward to these 4 stores opening in the short term and many more in the future also as we seek to expand our footprint in the capital city and the rest of the county.”
